The Institution of Electronics & Telecommunication Engineers, Chandigarh Centre, was established in 1977 with an initial membership of 15 corporate members. The Centre serves the needs of Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, and the Union Territory of Chandigarh. Over the last 47 years, it has made significant strides in keeping pace with the growth of electronics and telecommunications in the country. Currently, the Centre has approximately 1,100 members, including 500 ISF student members.
The foundation stone of the IETE Chandigarh Centre was laid on 13th December 1993 by His Excellency Shri Surendra Nath, the then Governor of Punjab and Administrator of the Union Territory of Chandigarh. The Centre relocated to its permanent site in Sector 30-B, Chandigarh, in 1997, occupying a partially constructed building on a one-acre plot of land, opposite CSIO Colony. The Centre expanded further with the laying of the foundation stone for the Seminar-cum-Examination Hall on 16th April 2004, by Prof. K.K. Aggarwal, Former President of IETE, New Delhi. The Seminar Hall was inaugurated on 5th November 2005 by His Excellency Dr. A.R. Kidwai, the then Governor of Haryana.
The Institution of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineers (IETE), Chandigarh Centre has played a key role in providing ample opportunities for career advancement to professionals in this region. As a leading professional body, it has been promoting advancements in Electronics, Telecommunication, and Information Technology education. IETE Chandigarh has been honoured four times with 'Best Growth Centre Award' and the 'Best Centre Award - Second Prize'
Since its inception, the Centre has been actively engaged in providing an interactive platform for sharing knowledge among engineers, scientists, academicians, technologists, and other professionals. The Institute regularly organizes the following events:

The Institute organizes national seminars, conferences, and similar events every year, which are attended by professionals from across the country. The topics of the symposiums are selected based on their technological relevance.
